[Trans] Kame Camera - Vol.17 Match

I made you wait! Unluckily, RL caught on me so I have almost zero time to translate fandom stuff. But here comes Maquia!

Highlights:
- Some anecdotes about Kame's primary school age and something from his 18-20 years old period...
- Kame is unfair with his girlfriend xD
- Talking about drama numbers.
- The meaning of the "real match" :)

Big thanks to [livejournal.com profile] yararanger that checked my messy English once again and made this translation readable ♥

KAME CAMERA
What's the scenery of the bottom of the heart that Kamenashi Kazuya's lens reflects?

Vol.17 勝負 - MATCH

「It’s fine not winning all the games. More than having a match against someone, I want to continue challenging myself.」

The main protagonist of the first pitch ceremony at MLB opening match! At the crucial moment I got nervous and the ball missed quite a lot (laughs). Even though Athletic’s batter, the athlete Jemile Weeks, has a small build, he has the strength of both body and spirit that allows him to fight in the major league. He’s cool.

During primary school I had a fist fight quarrel with a male classmate and I won, so I had him coming to my house to pick me up, with his bicycle (laughs). I was scolded by that guy’s parent, but I did win! I was thinking like “Isn’t this obvious in a man’s world?”. Since the Kamenashi family is just us 4 brothers, fist fights are an everyday experience. Moreover, since my older brothers were very macho I just kept losing, so I was always made do things for them (laughs). That period I learnt that there are “fights you can’t win”. So I learnt that it isn’t necessary to win all the matches, and maybe I began to undertake only those fights I can win (laughs).

For example, if a love rival appears, I’m the type that gives up. If the rival is a friend it’s even more unthinkable that I get greedy and start a battle with him. More than saying that this is gentleness, I guess it’s my style of aesthetics. Something like, more than unreasonably pulling the girl, I had planned to give up but before realizing it she was already here [=she chose me]. Maybe I’m simply being unfair (laughs)

Even in the work place, more than being on the front line saying “Me, me!”, I think the ideal is becoming able to create the atmosphere of that place, wherever I am.

I absolutely hate to lose. At the sauna I constantly have small secret matches like “I’ll never go out before the guy sat next to me!!” (laughs). When I was allowed to take part in the professional baseball teams’ training I decided to surely finish the same schedule the players were going to do. It was a necessary battle too, in order to show the athletes about whom I was collecting data that I was taking my responsibilities seriously. I think the most important thing is winning the match against yourself, not the fact you’re battling with someone, isn’t it?

I don’t gamble, but my life itself is a gamble!

Audience ratings, sales, popularity rankings, etc… if you’re in this world you are often exposed to comparative competitions. When I was around 20 years old, I was concerned about it like it was everything and I was continuously swinging back and forth between joy and despair. Once, when the ratings of a drama in which I was the lead were bad, I was really depressed, saying “it’s my fault. I can’t walk outside anymore”. But you know, experiencing both good and bad times, I finally stopped being so controlled by it. I became able to think that the real match is something else.

Of course “numbers” are important. I really hate to avert my eyes from a bad result and lick my wounds among my comrades. I want to continue advancing forward after properly accepting and taking in whatever the result is. But the true match isn’t that. I believe the significance is in how I can proceed after meeting that work of art, the staff and the co-actors; in which ways I am able to grow. Even if numbers are good, if the atmosphere on the filming set is bad I can’t call it a win. On the other hand, even if numbers are bad, if the product has continued improving until the end without giving up, this will surely connect with what will follow thereafter. This defeat linked to what comes next is surely a win.

In my case, I think that my very life is a gamble (laughs). Since I won’t understand something unless I try to do it, I jump on whatever interests me by intuition. If I find something I really like, even if it’s stupidly expensive to the level of being above my means, I follow the principle of trying to buy it. When I was 18 years old there was a car I really wanted, but there was one zero too many, and I was tormented [by the price]. When Johnny-san said “buy it”, I began saving money with all my might, and I bought it. I was still a novice. It was around the period of “Nobuta wo produce”! (laughs) But that gamble became my fuel and I managed to think “Let’s become a man that suits this car. Let’s give my best at work!”… from now on too, more than sparring with someone else I want to continue challenging myself, and if I gamble at most, I want to continue gambling my true life.

Kame’s fixed point of observation

The day we did this coverage was soon after Kamenashi-kun’s birthday. “I was very busy so this year I did nothing… Normally I spend it alone!”. Maquia’s present is a decoration cake made of sushi! Actually when he learnt it was brought here from a sushi restaurant in Fukuoka, he also said “If I imagine how it was shook till it reached me here, I’m deeply moved”. While eating the sushi cake he frequently whispered “26 years…?”. “It’s the second half of my twenties, I’ve got the feeling that the actual take is from now on (laughs)”

By Maquia

"after a defeat there's a win", "the actual take is from now on"... I want to be as optimistic as Kame ;A; And lol. Kame, you're really unfair with your poor girls xD;

Once again I agree with him in so many points of view~ about chosing your battles for example.
And I love how he has learnt at so young age that one of the most important things in life is to give your all in everything you do and do it sincerely, the final result is no so important if you have no regrets about the way you did or behave, and if you are able to learn something good from any experience.
Take a whole life to understand this for some people.
Congrats Kame-chan you have learnt one of the secrets of happiness ~ I'm so proud of you <33

Thank you for the translation!
I do believe that at one point he got really depressed over ratings and stuff. I feel that the Kami no Shizuku ratings affected him a lot. I'm glad it seems he was able to get over that period all right.

Also, I love when he tells that story about the car. I love how it became his source of inspiration during work. <3

Kame is sweet :) Giving up love for friends? But, in the case when that girl actually likes him? That'll be sad~
He really is competitive & I like him for having that nature. At least he will not easily give up whenever he falls~

Thanks for translating this!
