iside89I wondered for quite a long time what to do for Kame’s birthday. What could be appropriate to celebrate the 2012 Kame and welcome the 2013 Kame?
In my mind the answer was “BEM”. He put all his efforts in creating this character, in making the drama and then this movie a product of art everyone can enjoy. He travelled around Japan to promote it, packing his schedule even more.
Therefore I chose to translate something Bem-related and that possibly came directly for him.
I chose to translate the J-Web messages on the special Bem site, that sooner or later will disappear from the J-web, so I want to save them. They are short comments about each of the 28 cities he visited. He more or less updated 1~2 cities every day, after the 28 cities promo ended. It was kinda cute because he left every day a cryptic marquee message in the home page, hinting to which city he was going to update.
So… HAPPY BIRTHDAY KAME! ^________^
TRANSLATION NOTE 1: It got lost in the translation, but Kame here is using a very respectful formal Japanese referring to all the people he met. ^^
TRANSLATION NOTE 2: A “stage greeting” is a mini-event in which before or after a movie projection at the theater, the actors (in this case, Kame) appear and hold a small speech/interview in front of the audience that attended.

I went to Sapporo on November 8th, I ate a seriously huge, the hugest crab of my whole life. It was delicious. I was also guest at the first TV program in the morning. I was quite in a hurry there and couldn’t visit with calm, but if I have to say something, I can’t forget the crab… I’ll never be able to forget.

I went to Aomori on December 12th, but it snowed, so it was my first snow [of the year] and first snow scenery! It was very beautiful. Also, I was served sushi. It was very delicious. As lunch I had my first senbei soup! It was so good~. Both sushi and senbei soup, they have a calming and warming taste, I thought I want to reproduce them at home.

At Iwate’s campaign, I appeared together with Ganriser, the local squadron hero. I was saved by Ganriser! Also, the interviewer really likes baseball, so we talked all the time about baseball. It was fun.

Moving from Aomori to Sendai with the Shinkansen~ In Sendai, even though I was there for the movie PR, I appeared on a singular sport program and talked about baseball. Then, a newcomer announcer interviewed me, but she was so inexperienced. At that sight I thought once again “I shall keep dear the original resolution”. Ah, that zunda drink was delicious!

At Akita’s campaign I met for the first time namahage [T/N: folklore demons of the Oga Peninsula]. They have a great force. The time of my permanence there was pretty short, but at the TV station’s parking lot I had 20 minutes of free time, so I quietly had a stroll. The weather was very good. I also played with the TV station character, Yonchan. I ate soba, it was very delicious.

For the Yamagata campaign I went to the Bunshokan. It’s an elegant building in which you can feel its epoch, it looks like it’s a place used for filming too. The atmosphere was also very beautiful, I thought that next time, if I have time, I want to quietly have stroll there.

After finishing Yamagata’s campaign I directly went to Fukushima. At a certain TV program I filmed in a 2-tatami-sized room, but how to say, it was a very manly room, it had that feeling (laughs). I couldn’t take my time there, but if I have time I want to go to Fukushima again too.

In Niigata I ate soba. Also motsuni. The soba was particularly delicious~ I ordered a large serving, but I ended up eating it at once.
Also, I can say this is common for all the places I went to, but for the campaign many fans came to welcome me, I was very happy.

If talking about Nagano, it is the Zenkoji temple, right. I draw an omikuji [T/N: piece of paper telling your fortune], and it was splendidly a “great fortune” one!! Also, I was called “Bem~” by a small kid, I was happy.
The weather was very clear and beautiful, I was served the special product of beef shabu shabu at a place in which the night view is beautiful, and the food was very delicious. The fact it rained a bit was a pity though.
After that, I was conducted to a hot spring, I entered it, I entered the sauna, the open air bath was all reserved, my tension raised up really a bunch!!

I went to Yamanashi on November 15th. It’s 2 hours by bus, so with an excursion-like feeling I reached Yamanashi~! Going there I could clearly see Mt. Fuji, it felt good, my tension raised. I also went to see Takeda Shingen’s statue.

On November 19th I went to Shizuoka for the campaign. That time I went to the Nihon Plain. The scenery was very beautiful. But it was a bit a pity that I couldn’t see the Mt. Fuji from there.

When I was in Toyama for the campaign the wind was strong and also rained. But I went to the famous filming place, Kensui park. It really looked like an overseas place, I thought it would feel so good if my house was here. It really felt like being overseas.

In Ishikawa I went to Ishikawa-mon. The front of Kanezawa station is a sort of gate. On the way, I was allowed to go to Matsui Hideki-san’s museum too [T/N: a baseball player]. Even though it was the closing day, Matsui-san’s older brother opened it for me, he treated me so well. I was allowed to look around with calm, it was a deep emotion. I want to go again~.

From Kanezawa I directly went to Fukui. In Fukui I ate Japanese food. There I ate for the first time Seiko crabs. The shell is incredibly soft, crunching the shell and extracting it and eating it, it was very delicious… Seiko crabs were very delicious. I thought that Japanese food is delicious.

For Nagoya’s campaign, I went in front of the shachihoko [mythical carp with the head of a lion and the body of a fish, auspicious protector of well-being] of the money in Nagoya castle. Then going back home, there’s an eel fillets restaurant I went during the concert tour period, so I ate eel fillets again there. I also met the woman running the restaurant that took care of us during the concert period once again! She looked good, that’s the most important thing. I want to go there again, eel fillets… to kill time!? (laughs) [T/N: he’s punning “hitsumabushi (eel fillets) with “himatsubushi (killing time)]

During Osaka campaign I was kissed on the hand by the two Shampoo Hat combi! When I appeared in the tv program, on the location-bus I was pressed so much (laughs). It was such a surprising start from the morning!
I also appeared live at “Miyaneya”, and got excited again talking about baseball with Miyane-san again. Then, there was also an event called “Yokai Showing” that people from a designer school prepared, and there I met a 6-people group called “Osaka yokai”.
It was great. Together with thinking “as expected the special make-up is amazing”, the spirit itself of those people welcoming me really made me happy.

For Tottori’s campaign I could go to Tottori sand dune too. It’s a real desert. I’ve never been to such a place, so I was a little moved by it.

I moved from Yamaguchi to Hiroshima and had okonomiyaki as dinner. It was November 1st, so it was exactly the period there was the Japan Series, so I remember I had lunch with everyone while watching it.

Yamaguchi was the start of the campaign! I arrived there and took a picture “Okay! From now we start!”, but after that there were the preparations and even though the hair were perfectly set, when I went out there was such a strong wind… (sad laugh). This travel started at such place.
We filmed at the TV station viewing platform, and the view I saw from there was factories and mountains and sea… It was perfectly fitting Bem’s world. I thought that being able to start the campaign from such a place there was a sort of destiny.

★Tokushima★
Tokushima is the place of sudachi [T/N: Japanese citrus], right. I ate fish meat rolled into bamboo, but in the dressing room they prepared sudachi for me too, so when I applied it to the sudachi and ate it, it was incredibly delicious. I arrived there, changed clothes, appeared on TV, then I had to move to Kagawa at once so I couldn’t visit with calm, so I wish next time I can take it easier.

During the campaign at Kagawa I ate the sanuki udon typical of the place.
The radio personalities told it, but people who come from Tokyo or other parts of Japan are unhappy after eating Kagawa’s sanuki udon. The reason is that after eating such delicious udon they can’t consider delicious any other kind of udon anymore. They taught me that there’s such saying in those zones, but it was really delicious I was moved.
I took part at a live radio broadcasting, and outside the building many fans came for me, that also made me happy.

★Matsuyama★
In Ehime prefecture, in Matsuyama, I could go to the hot springs. In Dogoonsen. The hot water was smooth, even the skin became smoother, it was extremely good. They let me spend a night comfortably.

In Kochi I reached the TV station, appeared in the TV program, had interviews, then went to the airport… it was something like this, so I couldn’t stay there so long, but I went to Kochi Castle and took pictures. I took pictures next to two old ladies who came there as tourists and were taking a memory picture, as I was there for the same reason [T/N: as if he was a normal tourist], and greeted moms who were there as travel with a “hi!”. The autumn leaves were beautiful too.

I went to Fukuoka on November 24th. It was for a short span of time, but mizutaki, ramen… I was offered a lot of Fukuoka’s famous products. The people of the TV program I appeared in have a “Great serving” project, so I was served a lot of food. In the bus I also had a footbath. Fukuoka is a place I have been allowed to go often [for job], but this time I went to the shrine, I could see the city with calm, it was fun. At any rate, the food was delicious.

In Nagasaki, the panorama I could see from the TV station’s waiting room was incredibly beautiful. In such place I was offered saraudon [T/N: Udon with various toppings typical of Nagasaki]. There are so many mountains, also, under the TV station a sort of open set of Edo Period could be seen. They said it is used for filming, but they also said it’s normally used as touristic place too.

In Kumamoto I could also have a stage greeting; I was thinking “I want you to watch this movie soon, I want you to watch this movie soon”.
I also drank for the first time the rice shochu, and raw horsemeat dish and sea slug. It was fresh and delicious. Also Hitomoji guruguru! It’s onion rolled around and around, it was delicious. [T/N: as Kame himself explained, it’s a sort of dumpling-like dish made with onion, roots and vinegared miso]
But it’s a pity I couldn’t meet Kumamon… [T/N: mascot of Kumamoto region]

In Kagoshima there are many palm trees, it really looked like southern countries. Seeing such scenery my tension raised up~. The presence of Sakurajima [T/N: it’s an active volcano] is impressive, there was also a baseball field. I thought I want to go there in summer too. I had the feeling like I was being abroad.

I went to Oita on November 24, was it? I remember I managed to have a short stroll in the park with everyone in the night. I ate at the hotel, but it was local cuisine. The fact the food was delicious is also a good memory.
